Sustainable Solifemar

Responsible tourism policy

Aware of the importance of maintaining sustainable tourism development, and in accordance with the principles and objectives adopted specifically at the World Summit on Sustainable Development 2015, COP 21 and the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism + 20, ApartHotel Solifemar is committed to the sustainable management of its activities, through adopting a series of commitments to prevent, eliminate or reduce the impact of our facilities and activities, both internal and external, as well as to optimise the sustainability of the establishment by improving its relationship with the environment.

In the same spirit, our organisation has adopted the following Responsible Tourism Policy, committing to comply with the requirements established in the BIOSPHERE commitment, which includes, among other things, the legal requirements that regulate the effects generated by tourism activity.

We are also committed to motivate and train our staff with educational and awareness-raising activities on the principles of Responsible Tourism, to promote good environmental practices in our surroundings and participate in external activities, and to report on the progress and environmental actions of the company both internally and externally.

Similarly, our establishment is expressly engaged in the fight against sexual exploitation and any other form of commercial exploitation and harassment, particularly that of children, adolescents, women and minorities, and we are committed to adopting universal accessibility measures.

One of our main objectives is to perfect our sustainable management, adopting commitments to continuous improvement in all areas, including social, economic and environmental sustainability, as well as customer satisfaction. Therefore, projects for future extensions of facilities or activities will be subject to criteria regarding sustainability and efficiency in the use of resources.

This Responsible Tourism Policy will be updated whenever necessary, and new sustainability objectives will be adopted and published.

We are committed to and working towards sustainable tourism

For this reason, and for almost a year, we have been studying and changing our way of understanding tourism, accommodation and the operations of the entire Solifemar Group with the aim of joining the Biosphere Commitment.

Committed to the Sustainable Development Goals #SDG

We are sustainable

We trust in Biosphere Responsible Tourism

We want to involve all Solifemar staff and all our customers in the Biosphere Experience. To achieve this, we are sharing what sustainability means, information that we provide and extend to all our internal customers.

What does it mean to be sustainable?

The definition of sustainability comes from a United Nations report published in 1987, which specifies that sustainable development is “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

That being said, sustainable tourism is defined as “tourism that takes full account of

its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities.” This is in accordance with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation.

Solifemar is committed to a business model that is guided by these definitions and the

principles of balancing our community, its culture and history, our environment and our economic growth in a way that is fair and mindful of creating a positive impact in all our interactions.

That is why we decided to join the Biosphere Commitment, a quality certification programme based on the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which play an important role in achieving sustainable tourism. We are confident that this new approach will enable us to achieve all our goals together. If you would like to know more about this, we invite you to ask your area manager.
